Family Layout Tutorial & Video Tutorial by Blog Co-ordinator Aditi Mahajan

Hello Everyone,

A very happy September! With the beginning of a new month, we have a wonderful new challenge!

Today I'm here to share an easy to make Layout Tutorial with you all which is also an inspiration for our challenge this month.

Many craft brands come up with coordinated sets/kits. Most often we end up buying the paper pack alone and using it and then in a future date we end up buying the die cut/embellishments and use them individually. However, have you realised how worthy it would be to invest in the entire kit and use it in your projects? Sometimes we are creating an album, a layout, a card, and using all the coordinated elements leads to a great creation.

In my layout today, I will be using one such kit from Kaisercraft- The Golden Grove Collection. All the elements go so well together, that within minutes a quick layout can be created.

Let's begin...

Step1: First begin by choosing a photo and a base paper.

Step 2: Choose a contrasting pattern paper to mount the photo on. Here I have kept it a 1/4" bigger than the photo on all sides. Stick the photo on the paper. Add some depth to the entire photo mat with waste chipboard/cardboard. Distress the edges of the paper.

Step 3: This Paper Pack has one sheet with flower clusters. So I fussy cut those from the sheet. Usually, every paper pack has one such pattern from which elements can be fussy cut.

Step 4: Use a stencil and add some texture with modelling paste.

Step 5: Pick inks of the colours on your base paper. Here I used distress inks. Randomly add some colour on your paper, especially to blend in the texture. Ensure to leave some texture white as that adds extra interest. Distress the edges of the base paper.

Step 6: Add more interest with stamping. Choose one colour that dominates the background colours (in this case green) and black. Stamp randomly around the focal image using two background stamps.

Step 7: Layer and play with the fussy cut elements, the collectables (die cut elements coordinated with the sheet) and the wooden collectables. Stick some with glue and some with foam tape. Run the blade of the scissors on the edges, to give the flowers and leaves some dimension. Pick a title from the collectables.

Step 8: Complete the layout with some splatter in white and green.

Since this is a layout, and it's difficult to merely read instructions, I created a video tutorial for you all :-)! Click here

Guest DT Afrreen: Folding Album Tutorial

Hello Crafty Friends,

A very good morning to you all.

Today in our Teaching and Learning Program we have Afrreen Banu as Guest DT. She is passionate about making handmade crafty products like Kundan Jewellery, Quilling and Papercrafts. She will gonna teach us Folding Album, so sit back and enjoy the step by step tutorial from her.

Over to you Afrreen,

Hello Everyone,
This is my first GD post for Rainbow Craftykari and thank you Maninder for this opportunity. Today am going to share a pictorial tutorial of making Mini Album.

Lets begin,

Step1: For album base we need chipboard (gsm as per your wish). Need 5 piece of various size chipboard size as follows (11x6.5cm ,11x3.5cm, 11x8cm, 11x3cm, 11x5cm), then 2  different pattern sheets for covering the chipboard outer and inner part (size of pattern sheet 26 ¾ x 11¼ cm and 30 x 14cm).

For inner pages need 4 piece of black cardstock 16.5x8cm score them at (8|0.5|8) here I used Penguins in love pattern sheet from Papericious.

Step 2: Adhere the chipboards to the pattern sheets for outer cover, trim the corners now you can see the excess of pattern sheets outside the chipboards, just fold them and stick it inside the chipboard I used red tacky tape for sticking them , you can also use white glue, now stick the inner part with another sheet of pattern paper and trim it off the excess ones outside the chipboard, and I have put magnetic clips on both the sides.

Step 3: For hanging charms, I used eyelet on top of the 11x3.5 size and chained them using jump rings, hanged charms in the chain using jump rings.

Step 4: Adhere pattern sheets as per your wish for inside pages now stick inner pages one after other, note a point while sticking adhere them opposite direction( if one page folded side is at the left then stick 2nd page, & folded side should be on right)

Step 5: for inner page decorating I just created a pocket and tags and I have fussy cut penguin from the pattern sheet and adhered them to the inner page, I used just for you embossed sentiment, so as I created pockets and put some tags and die cuts for other pages, adhered ribbon in center of the page & added die cuts to it.

Step 6: Used stitched oval die cut and frame, adhered at the center of the page and I used  corner die cuts, flower and leaf to decorate it.

Step7: Now adhere the accordion type folded pages to the center base (11x8).

Step8: I used fussy cut love you from Papericious pack and adhered it, for decoration I arranged flowers, leaves (flowers and leafs are made out of dies) added glitters in leaves and flowers.

Step9: Added few dew drops for leaves and flowers using glossy accents.

For adding glitters just sprinkle glitters over the flowers and leaves, if you are satisfied with the amount of glitters sprinkled just take a pic of it, now shutter all the glitters down, for adhering  glitters for 1 part of glue 1 part of water mix them well, it will become thinner, wet your brush and dip it in the mixture ,now just carefully splatter the mixture using brush (refer the pic taken by you ).

If you feel you want light sparkles then give slight coat, and now sparkle the glitters over it and shake the excess, if u feel anywhere excess amount of glitters adhered don’t worry use napkin and spread the excess.

And your project is ready. If any doubt, feel free to ask and leave your comments here.

Guest DT Kriti: Triple Pockets Album Tutorial

Hello Crafty friends,Today we are presenting Our first Guest DT Kriti Mishra with her tutorial. Over to you Kriti.

Today I'm so happy to be a  guest DT on India's one of the most prestigious blog and a store Rainbow Craftykari. Today I'm here with a album tutorial which has a different pockets and fold. Grab your coffee and kick back on your favorite chair as we are going to start an detailed tutorial onTriple Pockets Album.

There are five basic points to keep in mind while making a mini album:

1. Size of the album.
2. Number of pages.
3. Type of pages.
4. Color coordination.
5. Embellishments.

This mini album measure 6" x 5". There are three pages. The style I have used for pages is Triple pocket with Tri fold flap(The style of all the pages has been kept identical so that the tutorial do not look heavy). Colors I have zeroed in on Pretty Purple and Sunny Yellow. And some embellishments which are listed below . Hope you all enjoy making it.

Step 1:- Take 3 chipboard pieces. Two of them are 6" x 5" in size, which will be the front and back for the album and one of them will be 6" x 2" in size, which will be the spine of this album.

Step 2:- Attach all the three pieces with a piece of cello tape from both the sides, leaving a little bit gap between the chipboard pieces so that it can bend easily (This step is done so that when we cover it, chipboard pieces will not move and we will be able to cover it properly).

Step 3:- Now cover it with the cardstock of size 8" x 14".

Step 1 :- Take a cardstock of size 5- 1/2" x 5", and start scoring at every 1/2" on the 5" side.

Step 2:- Then, leaving an 1/2" space, pinch up the 1" score line to make the first hinge then leaving 1/2" space for gusset now pinch up the 2 - 1/2" score line for the second hinge then leave 1/2" space for gusset and lastly pinch 4" score line to make the third hinge. This process will make three hinges.

Step 3:- Now, attach the hinge with the glue on the spine

Step 1:- Trim two pieces of cardstock. First of size 9 - 1/2" x 9", to make triple pockets and second of size 13" x 5- 1/2", to make tri fold flaps.

Step 2:- Take the first piece n the longer side, score at 4- 1/2" and 9". Now, rotate the paper by 90° and score at 5- 1/2".

Step 3:- Next, apply score tape to the 1/2" tab on the right and cut a notch at the 5 - 1/2" score line.

Step 4:- Crease all the score lines well. Next, remove the tape backing, fold the left panel over and adhere the 1/2" tabs.

Step 5:- Cut and adhere a mat for the top section (Size of mats should be less than 1/4" of the size of the page. Suppose size of the page is 3 x 4, then mat should be 2- 3/4" x 3- 3/4").

Step 6:- Apply tape along each side of the bottom section, remove the backing tape, fold up and adhere. Now, adhere a mat for this section.

Step 7:- You now have three pockets, one on the bottom side, other directly behind it (both of them can be used for journaling)and a top loading pocket(can be used as a photo mat),which is larger in size.

Step 8:- Attach this to the left side of the first hinge after removing the backing tape.

Step 9:- Now to create the tri fold flap, trim a piece of cardstock of size 13" x 5- 1/2". Then on the long side, score at 1/2", 5" and 9- 1/2". Crease all the score lines well. Now, adhere the flap to the right side of the first hinge by putting left most 1/2" tab on the hinge.

Step 10:- Now, cut mats and adhere to each panel. Turnover, then cut and adhere mats for the remaining panels.

Step 11:- Repeat all the steps to make 2 more pockets and 2 more tri fold flaps.

Step 12:- After adhering all the three pages, mat the back side of the cover of the album, by putting a ribbon and then hide the gusset also with the pattern paper.

Step 1:- There are three pages in this album, which have three pockets, so there will be minimum 9 tags. Mat them accordingly.
Sizes of the tags
1. 4- 3/4" x 4- 1/4"(Three tags)
2. 2- 3/4" x 3" (Three tags)
3. 2-3/4" x 4- 1/4" (Three tags)

Step 2:- As a finishing touch for the tags, take a thread of around 11" size of the coordinating color and fold it twice and tie around a clip. Attach the clip to the tags.

Now tags are ready to go into the pockets.

Here are few inside view of the  album

Front Cover

For front cover I had adhesive a mat of purple color and then pasted a yellow color burlap sheet measuring 5'' by 4-1/2''. Then cut a piece measuring 5'' by 1'' from purple color burlap sheet and paste a yellow color lace on it.
Next add few self adhesive pearls and tag with label to it.
