Garden-themed Decoupage Bottle by GDT Khusboo Gandhi

Hie guys! I'm Khushboo Gandhi, and welcome to our next round of Tutorials. And especially for this, I've chosen one of the most interesting techniques: Decoupage. Today, I will teach you how to decoupage a bottle using tissue papers. 

First, you need to collect all the paraphernalia required for your project, like: a bottle, your choice of tissue papers, decoupage glue, gesso, white acrylic paint, paint brushes, glue and other embellishments (but these can be assorted later as well).

Step 1: Clean your bottle with rubbing alcohol to get rid of grease and stains. This will ensure that your bottle has a clean surface for you to work on.

Step 2: Gesso the bottle all over. Let it dry for some time. Gesso it again. Give it a few uneven coats (in case you want a textured surface).

Step 3: Choose the kind of design you want to put on your bottle. Generally, decoupage tissue papers are 2 or 3 ply i.e. they have 1 or 2 white, plain paper behind the design that you need to separate from (as can be seen in the following picture).

Step 4: Decoupage is the art of sticking design paper on the surface of a project. How much of that tissue paper you want to stick on your bottle, and how you want to place it - is entirely up to you. For my project, I wanted to wrap around one complete piece of tissue paper on the lower half of my bottle. So first take the decoupage glue and apply it with the help of a flat paint brush on the bottle. Then take your design tissue paper and lay it over the wet glue carefully and gradually. Then apply a coat of decoupage glue over the tissue again. Let it dry.

Step 5: For my project, I wanted to give it a little texture; and hence I let the creases form naturally white setting the tissue paper on my bottle. Repeat until the whole of your lower half bottle is covered with tissue (as can be seen in the picture below). 

Step 6: Now we need to cover the neck of our bottle. Here's a more detailed shot of the process. I took a small piece of my design tissue paper (butterfly motif) and spread it across a glued surface. I then applied another coat of decoupage glue over it.

Step 7: This is how it looks (see the picture below). Keep on repeating until the entire neck of the bottle is covered in tissue paper.

Step 8: Cover the white areas in-between the tissue paper pieces with a matching acrylic paint. This will give a cohesive look to your project. Let it dry.

Step 9: After half an hour, cover the whole bottle with an even coat of decoupage glue and let it dry completely. This will further seal your tissue paper layers and reduce wearing out the papers.

Step 10: Your beautifully decoupaged bottle is now ready to be embellished. Now starts the most adventurous part! Go wild! Try out different themes on your projects! For mine, I created a Garden Theme.

Waterfall Folio Album tutorial by GDT Karthikha

Hello Crafty Folks,

This is Karthikha here at RCS and today I'm sharing with you a tutorial on how to make a waterfall folio album. Sit back and enjoy the long post :)

Step 1: To start with, you will need 2 chipboard pieces, each measuring 8 ½ x 4 ½ inches. For the spine, take a chipboard piece measuring 8 ½ x ¾ inches. I’ve used 950gsm chipboard, but you can go with a lighter one as well

Step 2: Choose your favourite patterned paper for the outside of the album and trim it down to 10 ½ x 12 inches. I’ve used the floral papers from Papericious – Perfect Affair paper pack. Score this sheet at 1 inch on all the sides.

Step 3: Apply tacky tape on the edges and inside of the chipboards and place them as shown in the pic. Align the bigger pieces along with the score line on the patterned paper and stick them. Then place the center piece with some gap between the 2 bigger pieces and stick. 

Tip: This gap should be double the width of your chipboard and it allows the album to be folded.

Step 4: Once the chipboards are in place, cut along the corners and fold the patterned paper around the pieces along the scored lines, to form the hardcover of the album. Make sure to press the corners inside to get a neat finish. Apply tacky tape to the edges of the chipboard and the edges of the patterned paper. Fold along the creases and bind them together. Fold and fix the top and bottom first, before the side flaps.

Step 5: Cover the inner layer with a patterned paper measuring 8 ⅛ x 9 ⅝ inches. Score along the gaps in between the chipboard and fold them to form the album cover.

Step 6: For the waterfall folios, start with a base cardstock of size 7 ¾ x 4 inches. I’ve chosen iris cardstock 230gsm. Use a large corner round punch to give the base a rounded corner. Attach it to the right side of the album, eyeballing it in the middle.

Step 7: For the flaps, take 7 pieces of cardstock (iris used here) measuring 4 x 4 ½ inches. Score them at 4 inches on the wider side and fold the ½ inch flap. The flap will be glued, so punch rounded corners on the other side, that becomes the bottom of the flap in the waterfall folio.

Step 8: Apply tacky tape/glue on the ½ inch flap and align them along the top base of the album. Start from the top and proceed by adhering one flap below the other.

Once all the 7 flaps are attached, it should look like this.

Step 9: For matting the flaps, take 15 pieces of patterned paper, each measuring 3 ¾ x 3 ¾ inches.

Round the corners and attach them to each of the flaps – front and back. The last one will have only the front side.

Step 10: To cover up the small spaces in between flaps, take 7 pieces of patterned paper of size 3 ¾ x ⅜ inches and glue them. The waterfall folio is complete.

Step 11: For the left side, I decided to keep a pocket, but wanted it to be transparent. So I have diecut a frame using Gina Marie scallop stitched nested rectangles from the same paper pack, and attached acetate on the inside. Apply glue on the edges on 3 sides and attach to the left of the album, leaving the top side open for the pocket. I created 2 simple tags for the pockets from the same pp.

Step 12: Now for the closure mechanism, I used a cardstock measuring 3 ¾ x 1 inches, and matted with a patterned paper of size 3 ⅝ x ⅞ inches. Roll this flap around a bottle, I used my spritzer, to get the curved shape.

Step 13: Attach tacky tape to one end of the flap, and a magnet to the other end. The tacky tape part will be adhered to the backside of the album and magnet on the front.

Step 14: Measure the center of the album, and attach the closure flap carefully. Mark the position of the magnet in the flap on the front side and attach another magnet on the top of the album front. Take care to check the poles and they are the attractive sides.

I decorated the front of the album, in a way the magnet is covered. I’ve used a scallop circle diecut from Gina Marie scallop stitched nested circles dies, attached a doily distressed with Picked Raspberry, and used flowers for the central part. In order to cover the magnetic flap, I’ve used another flower that also serves to hold the flap and open easily. I’ve used corner charms for the opposite corners to complete the album.

Quick Card Tutorial by GDT Anila & GDT Khushboo

Hie guys! I'm here today with a very special and a little different post - a Quick tutorial on Quick Cards. And specially for this, we have two GDTs coming together to share with you a detailed tutorial for quick, yet beautiful cards.

Often times than not, we're so busy with life, that we rarely get time to create those special looking cards for the ones we love. Hence, Rainbow Craftykari and Maninder, came up with this super idea of showcasing a tutorial that encompasses some techniques that you can use for making cards in just a few minutes.

There will be a couple of cards with different techniques by me, Khushboo Gandhi, and another very talented GDT, Anila DK. Hope you guys enjoy this post as much as we enjoyed creating it for you. Can't wait to see how you put these techniques to use with your own twist on your projects!"

The following is the introduction for my cards:

"Let's begin with our first segment on quick cards in this series. As some of you must be aware, I LOVE colours! I love vibrancy and magical stuff. And I try to bring some of that spunk in my projects too. Quick cards don't always have to mean CAS style or a minimalistic style. I've come up with a couple of techniques that don't take very long to implement, ans the end result is really distinct and lively. So let's get on with our super pretty tutorial.


Colour Burst Mixed Media Card Tutorial #1

You will need:

White/off-white cardstock
Crackle paste
Ranger's alcohol inks
Vellum
Versafine Black ink pad
Sentiment stamp
Rhinestones


Directions:

1. Dimensions of the card: 5x4 inches
2. Take a white or an off-white cardstock, folded into the above dimensions.
3. Add crackle paste in the background, in whatever way you wish. It should look random and not in a set square or rectangle shape. That way, your card looks edgy and different.
4. Take alcohol inks in the colours of your choice and start squeezing a drop here and there (in-between spraying with water/alcohol).
5. Repeat step no. 4 till you are satisfied with the colour combinations and have covered almost the whole of your crackle base.
6. Take a piece of vellum for the sentiment. Stamp it with your sentiment stamp, and stick the vellum on top of the colourful crackle base. You can use any colour cardstock if you don't want to work with vellum. I've used it because I did not want that beautiful, colourful background to be hidden by the cardstock.
7. Embellish with rhinestones to add an elegant touch, and voila! your card is ready in just a few minutes

Make your own background and font (card #2)

You will need:

White/off-white cardstock
Colour sprays
Glitter
Butterfly stamp
Black ink pad

Quick Directions:

1. Fold the cardstock in the same way as for the above card.
2. Take a few color sprays and spray them on the cardstock. The spray should be concentrated on one point on the cardstock (so that you get the splotchy effect).
3. Take your card and let it drip out at one end to get rid of the extra spray color on your card. In doing so, you are allowing the colors to mix and get dragged to another end of your card (hence creating a random pattern as seen above).
4. Stamp a butterfly and add glitter on it. Curve it and stick it on the card.
5. I was a little bored of the pre-set sentiment stamps and fonts, and so I took my glitter bottle and stylized the sentiments myself for the words 'fly high'.

Hello, Dear Crafters. 

This is Anila Here, I am back again at the Rainbow Craftykari blog.

We come across various occasions for wishing our friends and family. One click on the smartphone and your wishes reach the person. 

In this age of Whatsapp and Facebook, we often forget the joy of sending greeting cards. The emotions you attach to a digital card is not felt as much as when you send out an actual card. This way the recipient feels and knows the love and efforts you have put in making the card and thus your wishes to them also become memorable. I think we all love receiving cards. 

Let us make few cards today and send them out to our family/friends.

Today in this post I am showing you three easy and quick cards, which you can make for your loved ones. The most important part here is that these cards are made with minimal supplies.  

Material list -

White cardstock

Black cardstock

Colourful cardstocks

Sentiment stamps

Foam adhesives

White Embossing powder (Optional)

Embossing folder (Optional)

Colorful sequins

Card 1

Directions:

1. I took a plain white cardstock of size 2.5" x 5.75".
2. Dry embossed this card panel through my bigshot using a cupcake embossing folder.
3. On a textured card base of 4"x6", I stuck a glitter washi tape such that when the embossed panel is mounted over the card base a part of this washi tape is seen from under.
4. On a white CS strip, I stamped the "Happy Birthday" sentiment. Mounted this on the card base with a little larger black strip underneath. 

(Note: - The embossed panel can easily be replaced by a pattern paper if you do not own an embossing machine or folder)

Card 2

Directions:

1. I took a white card panel of size 2.75" x 6". 
2. I mounted few colourful heart die-cuts as balloons on the panel.
3. With a black marker traced the strings for the heart balloons. 
4. Adhered this panel on a white card base.
5. Stamped the sentiment on a white strip and mounted it with foam adhesive.

(Note - The hearts can be easily hand-cut)

Card 3 

Directions:

1. For this card, I cut colorful strips and arranged them on the 4"x6" card base. 
2. I tried to maintain the color wheel concept. So first placed the primary colored strips and then overlapped them with the secondary colors. Stuck them in place. Trimmed off the extras. 
3. Next, I took a white card panel of size 4" x 5.5". Die-cut a heart shape on this panel. 
4. I mounted the negative panel with foam adhesive on the card base such that the heart cut-out overlooks the colorful strips. 
5. I heat embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder on a black strip. Adhered it with foam adhesive with a part of it overlapping the heart. 
6. Lastly, added few colored sequins to add some element to the card. 

(Note - The heart can be traced and cut with a carving knife.)

Wasn't it easy to make these cards? 

We all have these basic supplies lying in our house. And like I mentioned, the embossed panel can be replaced by pattern paper, the die-cuts can be replaced by hand cuts and the stamped sentiments too can be replaced by handwritten sentiments. 

Just imagine the joy of making such cards and sending them to your loved ones.
