Spring Bird Cage Inspiration by DT Spardha

Hi guys!

Spardha here for today's inspiration post at the Rainbow Craftykari Blog. Hope you guys are enjoying the Spring Season, with the beautiful weather, flowers and the pretty pretty colours all around.

Taking inspiration from the season, today's post will be a bit more "organic" {I know I can crack better jokes, I'm working on it!}

Today I have for you a beautiful spring-themed ornament made entirely with a sheet paper. These can be great centre-pieces for décor or out-of-the-box gifts. I will be keeping it at my craft desk as this season's mood-board.

To make your own birdcage, start by cutting a 3" circle from chipboard to act as a base. I covered mine with green felt fabric, but you can use paper or moss as well.

Cut a small circle for the top of the cage and stick four 1/2" strips of white paper to the centre of the circle cut-out. An easy way to make sure that your cage fits on to it's base is to wrap a 1" strip of paper around the periphery of the base and stick it's two ends so the circular strip pops out.

Mark 8 points at equal distances on the circular strip and stick the ends of the 1/2" paper strip at each of these points. Let it dry and your birdcage is done!

Now all you have to do is unleash your creative cells and decorate it to your liking. I brought in a bit of actual nature in mine by using a dried stem as the main branch, using loads of paper flowers, fabric trims and bling to complete the look.

Altered Jars by Blog Coordinator Aditi Mahajan

Hello everyone,

Hope you've kickstarted your December with enthusiasm! After the Diwali month, December is my personal favourite because of the cheer you get to see around the world!

Keeping up with this festive spirit, today I am back with an Inspiration post for you. I have also incorporated the December Challenge in my creation. I used the colours Red and Green, Snowflake and Glitter.

I have altered two glass jars which make great gifts for Christmas. I personally have been flaunting them at home. To alter them this time, I decided to use techniques of paper crafting rather than mixed media.

Here's a look at the Jars:

To make these begin by choosing three to four pattern papers. Cut one to go around the circumference of the jars. Distress the edges and stick it. Next, cut two narrow strips for a different pattern to layer on top. Die cut a circle for the lid. Use glitter cardstock, and die-cut a snowflake element to decorate the lid. Embellish it with flowers and other die cut elements. You could go on with layering and embellish as per your imagination and liking. Fill them with cookies, chocolates, brownie and more for Christmas Gifts. Like you see, they are quick and easy to make so you can create multiple of these at once.

Here are some more pictures:

Innovative Mailbox Tutorial By DT Anila Dikay

Hi Everyone!

Anila Here, I am back again, at the Rainbow Craftykari blog today with a tutorial and walk-through video.

This is a mailbox shaped box for gifting.

Let's begin with a tutorial.
(This is a picture heavy post.... I wanted to include as many pictures as possible so when you try to recreate this you will have no problem at all)

Materials needed are:
Black CS
Pattern papers
Laces/ribbons
A Brad and a handle
Decorative material.

Method:
  • Take a CS measuring 12" x 7". Score the 12" side at 1/2" and 11 1/2". (Sheet 1)
  • Take a sheet of the same CS measuring 7" x 4". (Sheet 2) Stick the scored lines of sheet 1 to sheet 2 from the lower side. The box structure is ready.

  • Take a CS measuring 8" x 5" and score it at 1/2" from all the 4 sides.

  • Trim the corners as shown and fold up the edges to form a tray.

  • Cut 2 pieces of the CS, little larger from all sides than the arch shape.

  • Make small cuts along the extra edge of the cutout and fold them inwards. Cover the folded edge with a strip of paper.

  • Take the other cutout, follow similar steps and stick it to the tray made.

  • Now cover the box with colourful patterned paper over the arch.

  • Cover the side panel with colourful paper too (cutting the paper little larger and folding the sides inwards to cover the edges) Attach it to the box and stick it in place. This seals one end of the box completely.

  • Similarly cover arched portion of the tray. Stick pattern paper from the inner side of the tray (as shown)

  • Adhere lace to the edge of the arch.

  • Cut a Flag shaped CS, cover it with pattern paper. Using a single hole punch make a hole. Attach this to the box using a brad.

  • Attach a handle to the arch of the tray. Decorate the mailbox.

The Mailbox is now ready to hold any gifts inside.

Here are some final pictures with gifts inside.

That's all for today. Hope enjoyed making this mailbox with me. Would love to see if you create anything like this. Remember to tag us!

Favour Boxes tutorial by Kriti Mishra

Hello Crafters,

I am back on the blog with another tutorial. Why purchase gift boxes when you can make your own? Making gift boxes is fun. It’s super easy to learn how to make a cute gift boxes out of scrapbook paper.

To honour the small gifts in life, here is a really cool tutorial on how to wrap up your awesome heart-felt gift with something handmade, your own DIY gift box from scrapbook paper. This is turned into one of my favourite little projects to do because not only is it quick, but it’s personalized, hand-crafted, a beautiful work of art that will be remembered way beyond the day that you give the gift. Extra bonus...making your own gift box will cost you much less than a roll of wrapping paper at the store! Unique and cheap...who could ask for anything more?

Tutorial for Fold over Paper bag
  • Take a piece of scrapbook paper ( 10" x 12") and score at 5- 3/4"  and 11-1/2" on the long side.

  • Paste as shown in the picture with glue. Allow it to dry for some time.

  • Score both sides at 1" and fold it. The thickness of the fold will determine the space inside the bag and this will become the width of the bag, so accordingly score the paper from both sides.

  • Open the folds and along the creases made  fold inwards on both the sides as shown.

  • Fold the bottom of the bag for a length of around 1-1/2". This will depend on the size of the bag you are making.

  • Unfold the last fold made. Along the side crease, fold inwards to form a triangular shaped edge.Fold the flap inwards and flatten it as shown below. Paste the two flaps together using glue and press so that the base is firm.

  • Now moving on to the top, fold the top of the bag for a length of around 2", open it and pinch inside from both the sides and fold it over again. I had put brown colour cardstock over it for colour co-ordination.
  • Your fold over bag is ready, embellish it accordingly.

Tutorial for Milk Carton Paper bag

  • Take a piece of scrapbook paper (10-1/2" x 7"), score at 2-1/2", 5", 7- 1/2" and 10" on the long side.

  • Turn the paper 90 degrees and score at 2- 1/2", 5", 6- 1/2".

  • Fold and crease all the score lies.
  • Cut along the score lines from the base of your paper upto the 2-1/2" mark to make the flaps which will form the bottom of your box.
  • Next cut away the narrow side tab as shown in the picture.

  • Fold the paper and glue the side tab down.

  • After that it will look like this

  • Apply glue to the top of 3 of the bottom flaps. Fold each one on top of each other to form the base. The one without any glue should be the last flap to fold down.

  • Now gently pinch in the sides from the top, and close it using mini peg, wooden peg, washi tape or ribbon.

  • Milk carton paper bag is ready.

So I made two favour bags/boxes, hope you get inspired

Tip:- To get the right thickness, use can use high gsm plain cardstock also and later you can adhere scrapbook paper over it. It makes your box sturdy.

Personalize the labels with your own message.Even though it’s a plain design, you can dress it up with more embellishments to make it look more sparkly & special.
